Bisade Ologunde, born in 1960, better known by his stage name, Lagbaja, is a Nigerian afrobeat musician, singer-songwriter, and percussionist. He is popularly known for his signature use of a mask, which covers his identity. He was born and raised in Lagos State, where he began playing the saxophone.

As he began his career in the early 1990s, Ologunde took the name Lágbájá (which means “Jane Doe” or “John Doe” in Yoruba—a person whose name and identity are purposely concealed).

His name was reflected in his stage dress, which consisted of a slitted cloth and a rubber mask worn to depict the ‘common man’ in the Yoruba tribe’s carnival culture.

After teaching himself to play the saxophone, he created his first modest band in Lagos in 1991.

Lagbaja’s album We Before Me (IndigeDisc/PDSE), which was published in 2000 and featured a high ratio of percussion instruments such as congas and talking drums, demanded honesty from politicians and urged fraternity and solidarity.

He collaborated on song lyrics with Ego IhenachoOgbara, a backup singer, and also plays the tenor saxophone.
