Akin Omotoso, born June 24, 1974, is a Nigerian film actor, director, and writer. He is the son of Kole Omotoso and the brother of Yewande Omotoso, who are both writers.Akin is famous for his 2022 directional movie, Rise.

Akin Omotoso was raised in Ile Ife, Osun State, where he was born. He had his early education same in hometown in Osun State.

In 1992 after his father, Kole Omotoso, accepted a position as an academic at the University of the Western Cape, his family moved to South Africa.

Akin Omotoso was inspired to enroll at the same university and pursue a degree in speech and drama as a result. His mom passed away in 2003.

Career

While still a student, Akin Omotoso dabbled in the entertainment industry. In Mark Fleishman’s Sunjata, he made his acting debut.

As a result, he was also given the 1995 Fleur du Cap Award for Most Promising Student. He made his first short films, The Kiss of Milk, The Nightwalkers, and TheCaretaker, with the money he earned from performing in the play.

Akin Omotoso finished writing God is African, his first feature-length film, in 1999. In 2003, the movie was released.

In 2003, he founded T.O.M Pictures, a production firm, along with Robbie Thorpe and Kgomotso Matsunyane.

Between 2007 and 2013, Omotoso served as the series’ director for Africa Magic, M-Net, and the SABC. He started working on Tell Me Sweet Something in 2010.
